It’s infrastructure month in Minnesota!
Join us THIS Tuesday, 2/14, for an informal day at the state capitol to talk to our legislators about the need for infrastructure funding.
Small groups will be visiting the Senate in the morning, and House of Representatives in the afternoon. Feel free to join one or both sessions. We’ll be distributing copies of the report card and spreading the word about our state’s Infrastructure Report Card grade of “C”: 2022 MN Report Card.
What is the message?
Our agencies, public works leaders and operators have done a great job holding the “C” grade over the last 4 years despite construction materials cost escalation and inflation. But now, project bids are coming in higher than could have been predicted. Like an aging car, our aging infrastructure is past its prime and the improvement to-do list is stacking up. The time for infrastructure is now.
As leaders of ASCE, we have ethical obligations to protect and advance the health, safety, and welfare of the public through the practice of Civil Engineering. Civil engineers are stewards of our state’s infrastructure. IIJA, while helpful, is not enough on its own. Failure of these critical infrastructure systems is not an option.
